雖然「曼哈頓」也會採用別人的作品，但由於幾位團員本身具有創作的才華，因此他們有許多歌曲都是自己的作品。在創作方面表現最活躍的Winfred “Blue” Lovett(布魯拉維特)就經常不斷的構思，而且嘗試使用龐大的編曲來表現，不過有時候也會不了了之。他經常在睡夢中想到許多旋律，但總是因為太累了，而懶得起床把旋律記錄下來。有一天晚上，靈感再度浮現，由於感受太強烈了，他無法置之不理，因此他在凌晨三點鐘爬起來，以鋼琴伴奏，把所有的旋律與詞句都用錄音機記錄起來。這是一首抒情的慢歌，而他總認為，所有的慢歌都必須要有特別的意義。他想到自己和隊友們都曾經碰上過「三角戀愛」的困擾，於是以這個主題，寫成了「Kiss and Say Goodbye」，並且在第二天拿去跟隊友們分享，進而灌錄成唱片。問題是，哥倫比亞唱片並不是特別看好這首歌，甚至拖了十四個月才決定予以推出。
